Following years of campaigning by residents and Cllr Eric Kerry, the roads around Attenborough Station have at last been given stronger parking restrictions in order to improve safety at the crossing and other junctions, with ‘No Parking’ restrictions on station approaches and some difficult road junctions.
Cars and lorries coming in and out of the village have been unable to get over the crossing because of parked cars on both sides of the road. Even yesterday (Saturday) with no lorries, cars were gridlocked after the crossing had been shut for several minutes, a common occurrence.
Eric added “This is really great news for safety for Attenborough residents after our long wait. The work was approved last November. However, I am not yet fully convinced that this will be the end of the problem, as the car parking may only be moved on to other areas. We will definitely need to monitor what happens and see what the knock-on effects are, even though the County Council have said that they will not do any further work.”
